I am Scandi Gourmet Girl.
My real name is Monica Sik Holm and as a day job, I work as a freelance performer, composer and singing teacher. For many years I have been lucky to travel the world with my job and I have visited a total of 50 countries so far. I’m originally from Norway, where I still spend a lot of my time in productions, working at my musical theatre academy or enjoying spending time at my family home or summer house by the coast. However, on a daily basis, I’m based in Putney in South West London, living in an old converted Grade 2 Listed pub with my partner and my dog, and I have called England my second home for the past 11 years.
I have had a passion for food and food culture ever since I started working in restaurants as a teenager, working with patient and inspiring chefs who would always allow me to ask questions and taste a wide variety of dishes. This set the fundament for the way I spend my time travelling whenever I get some time off work. Over the years I have explored hundreds of restaurants, markets and bars in destinations I have travelled to, and the whole time I have had a strong urge to share my experiences. For a long time, I’ve been trying to find my own voice and find out how my experiences and travel tips best can be an inspiration to others. I am not a chef, I am not a travelling expert – I’m just someone who gets a kick from the flavour of a new place.
The more I travel, the more I find that my travel experiences are the type of experiences I would love to read about in a blog when I’m doing research. Authenticity, and explorations true and respectful to the destination. A true flavour of a place – where no views are funded by any corporations, just my own honest words and opinions.
I have always had a passion for writing and I hope you find my words inspiring and helpful.
